Shahid Afridi and his son-in-law Shaheen Afridi hosted Pakistan team for a dinner yesterday after they won ODI series against New Zealand.
Players including Mohammad Rizwan, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Haris, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Naseem Shah, Ihsanullah, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, and Iftikhar Ahmed attended the dinner. Team management's Umar Gul and Abdul Rehman were also present.
Pakistan's captain Babar Azam, Imam-ul-Haq, Agha Salman, Shan Masood, Usama Mir and Abdullah Shafique didn't attend the dinner. Their absence raised a controversy on social media as people claimed that Babar and Imam weren't invited by Afridis.
However, Shahid responded to the controversy and said the dinner was hosted by Shaheen.
"Shaheen told me that some of the players wanted to meet me. I asked him to invite them for a dinner," the former cricketer told media during his visit to National Bank Stadium today.
Currently, Pakistan team is playing five-match ODI series against the Kiwis. When this story was filed, Pakistan were batting first in the fourth ODI against the visitors.
After winning first three ODIs, Pakistan won a 50-over series against New Zealand for the first time in 12 years.
